Cameroon seeks cumulative impact study of 56-MW Lom Pangar

The government of Cameroon invites expressions of interest to study the cumulative environmental impact of the 56-MW Lom Pangar hydroelectric project and other potential projects in the Sanaga River Basin. Responses are due October 31.

With a credit from the World Bank's International Development Association, Cameroon plans to seek consulting work and construction under an energy sector development project that includes Lom Pangar Dam and other hydropower projects. (HNN 8/4/08)

The current solicitation seeks a cumulative impact study of the 46-meter-tall Lom Pangar Dam, including a reservoir of 540 square kilometers and storage of 6 billion cubic meters of water. In addition to generating its own electricity, Lom Pangar is expected to control flows to increase generation of downstream projects, 396-MW Song Loulou and 263-MW Edea, and the proposed 330-MW Nachtigal project.

The cumulative impact study is to cover the project's zone of influence as well as the Sanaga Basin and the area of eastern Cameroon in general. Cameroon previously indicated it planned studies for optimization of installation of five reservoir sites on the Sanaga River.

Expressions of interest, and qualifications, are due by noon October 31, either by e-mail to info@edc-cameroon.com or deposited with the Secretariat of the Commission des Marches at the address below.
