VRA awarded a US$5 million contract to Forclum Energies Services of France to refurbish switchgear at the 160-MW Kpong hydroelectric project on the Volta River. (HNN 10/30/07) Forclum was one of two bidders for the contract.
Work includes decommissioning of existing equipment and design, manufacture, installation, testing, and commissioning of new facilities for P6 � Upgrade of Kpong Generating Station Switchgear of the WAPP Coastal Transmission Backbone Project 2. It includes all electro-mechanical equipment and associated civil works to refurbish the switchyard.
VRA also awarded a US$15.5 million contract to China National Electric Wire &Cable Import/Export Corp. and Tianjin Electric Power Transmission &Transf. Eng. Corp. JV No. 8 of China. The Chinese companies were among seven bidders to upgrade electro-mechanical equipment at the 1,062-MW Akosombo hydroelectric project switchyard on the Volta River and the Volta switchyard. That work includes decommissioning of existing equipment and supply, installation, and commissioning of package P3 &4, to upgrade the switchyards, including expansion of the control building and repair or modification of defective foundations and concrete structures.
VRA awarded a US$3 million contract to Dongfang Electric Corp. of China for WAPP Coastal Transmission Backbone Project work. Dongfang was one of three bidders for Package 5-4-3: Third Bulk Supply Point for Accra/Tema � Supply of Transformers, including four transformers and a transformer oil purification plant.
VRA received a US$46.2 million loan from the World Bank for the West Africa Power Pool including the WAPP Coastal Transmission Backbone Project. (HNN 12/10/07).
