Chile approves environmental assessment of 150-MW Los Condores

Corema, the environmental regulator of Chile's Maule Region, has approved the environmental impact assessment of the 150-MW Los Condores hydroelectric project, proposed by utility Endesa on the Laguna del Maule reservoir in Chile's Region VII.

Endesa, which submitted the project for environmental review in 2007, said Corema gave unanimous approval April 16. (HNN 6/11/07)

The utility plans to invest US$180 million to bring the run-of-river project on line by the first quarter of 2012 in San Clemente District.

The application calls for construction and operation of a 150-MW hydropower station taking water from Laguna del Maule by a 16-kilometer system of pipe and tunnels. Los Condores would utilize flows of 25 cms and a head of 765 meters to generate 560 GWh annually.
