Ukraine awards circuit breaker contracts for three hydro plants

Ukraine utility OJSC UkrHydroEnergo has awarded a contract to ABB Switzerland Ltd. to supply circuit breakers for three hydroelectric projects.

ABB Switzerland Ltd. received a 4.6 million franc (US$4.18 million) contract to supply 33 generator circuit breakers for the 444-MW Kaniv, 361-MW Kyiv (or Kiev), and 661-MW Dnipro 2 hydropower projects. Equipment is to be delivered over four years.

ABB Switzerland was chosen in competition with AREVA T&D SA of France. The solicitation was one of two seeking circuit breakers for Ukrainian plants. (HNN 7/19/07)

With World Bank funding, the government of the Ukraine is carrying out a hydropower rehabilitation program to improve operational stability and reliability of hydroelectric plants. Most recently, UkrHydroEnergo called for bids by April 7 to supply voltage and current transformers for eight hydro plants. (HNN 2/1/08)
