The U.S. government's Millennium Challenge Corp. (MCC) awarded a US$698 million U.S. grant to Tanzania to fund improvements to roads, power, and water supply, including the Malagarasi project. (HNN 11/27/07) Tanzania set up a special entity to carry out the work, MCA-Tanzania.
MCA-Tanzania seeks consulting engineer and construction supervision services, for:
o Construction of access roads, a bridge, the Malagarasi run-of-river hydro plant, and a Kigoma Region transmission and distribution network;
o Rehabilitation of power distribution systems and network extension in six regions;
o Construction of a Zanzibar underwater transmission cable and related transmission lines and substations; and
o Technical assistance for Tanzania Electric Supply Co. and Zanzibar Electricity Co.
Work is to begin in April 2008 and continue for five years.
