  • Power Machines signs equipment deal for Russia's 840-MW Zagorskaya 2

Russian equipment supplier Power Machines announced October 29 it signed a contract worth 3 billion rubles (US$122 million) to supply pump-turbines for the 840-MW Zagorskaya 2 pumped-storage project.

Hydro generator HydroOGK awarded the contract to Power Machines in July to design, manufacture, and supervise installation of four 214-MW pump-turbines having a 6.3-meter diameter. (HNN 7/20/07)

Power Machines, which is to supply the Zagorskaya 2 units between 2009 and 2011, also equipped the original 1,200-MW Zagorskaya pumped-storage plant, also called Zagorsk, in the 1980s.

Russian government and hydro industry officials formally launched construction of Zagorskaya 2 on July 10 in the Moscow Region, aimed at meeting peaking capacity deficits and regulating the grid in European Russia. The 30 billion ruble (US$1.18 billion) project is to go on line in 2010, with full completion in 2012.
