Vietnam hydro plant builder Cavico Corp. said July 10 it won a US$12.5 million contract to build a headrace tunnel for the 190-MW Song Tranh 2 hydroelectric project in Vietnam's Quang Nam Province.

Cavico subsidiary Cavico Bridge &Tunnel is to construct a 1,000-meter headrace tunnel with a 10-meter diameter for the project, which is owned by Electricity of Vietnam. The work is to require 20 months.

The award is Cavico's second contract for the US$260 million Song Tranh 2. In late 2006, Cavico Bridge &Tunnel, won a US$1 million contract to provide construction services for a flood prevention road and bridge. (HNN 2/13/07) That work was expected to be complete in 12 months.

A day earlier, Cavico said South Hydropower Joint Stock Co. awarded it an infrastructure construction contract for the 75-MW Dambri hydroelectric project in Vietnam's Lam Dong Province. (HNN 7/10/07) Cavico said it received a US$3.75 million contract to build a 12-mile access and service road for Dambri, 87 miles northeast of Ho Chi Minh City at Da Huoai. The US$80 million project is expected to require a year to complete.

In May, Cavico said two of its subsidiaries signed a contract for additional construction work at the 18-MW Daksrong project in Vietnam's Gia Lai Province. (HNN 5/31/07)
