Macedonia offers 60 small hydro concessions

Macedonia's Ministry of Economy seeks bids for concessions to develop 60 hydropower projects of up to 5 MW each. Bids are due June 14.

The government offers 20-year concessions for development on a design-build-operate-transfer basis for sites in the Vardar, Strumica, and Crni Drim river basins. The solicitation is the first under a government program to develop 400 small hydro projects that would meet 10 percent of Macedonia's energy requirements.

Obligations of a concession winner include: elaboration of project documentation, providing all licenses and fulfilling all license requirements, constructing facilities according to documentation, managing and maintenance of facilities, and transfer of ownership to the government at the end of the concession.

Bid documents may be obtained until March 16 from the archive office of the Ministry of Economy for a fee of 300 euros (US$392). Payment is to Treasury Account 100000000063095; Account of Budgetary User 100011554763128; Revenue Code and Program 724125-10; Deponent: National Bank of Republic of Macedonia; Tax No. 4030000392597. For paying in EUR: Account name Ministry of Economy; INAN: MK07 1007 0100 0028 009; National Bank of the Republic of Macedonia; BIC (SWIFT): NBRM MK 2X.
