The dam safety work is to be conducted under a program of electricity market development for domestic consumption and for export. DRC courted consultants in December for environmental and social studies of rehabilitation and expansion of 351-MW Inga 1 and 1,402-MW Inga 2 and the rehabilitation of power stations in Katanga.
The government also has been seeking rehabilitation of three hydro projects in Katanga, 108-MW N'Zilo on Haut-Lualaba River, 248-MW Seke on Lualaba River, and 69-MW Mwadingusha on Lufira River.
The dam safety solicitation seeks consultants to inspect and evaluate safety of dams at Inga and in Katanga belonging to utility Societe Nationale d'Electricite (SNEL). Consultants also are to evaluate SNEL's operation and maintenance procedures. The work is to require two months.
Expressions of interest and qualifications must be in French and labeled "AMI/110/PMEDE/BCECO/DG/DPM/HMS/2006 - Appui a la securite de barrages d'Inga et du Katanga." They are due by mail or electronic mail by March 29.
