The National Dam Safety Program is sponsoring development of the manual, which will supplement information presented in the Federal Emergency Management Agency's 2005 publication "Conduits through Embankment Dams."
Initially, the committee responsible for the new manual wants only minimal information on applicable plastic pipe installations. Subsequently, it will solicit details on selected case histories from contributors, who will be acknowledged in the manual's preface.
The manual will not address other uses of plastic pipe often associated with embankment dams, such as instrumentation and relief wells.
Basic information must be submitted by April 28 to Chuck Cooper of the Bureau of Reclamation, one of the manual's primary authors. For more information, contact Cooper: (1) 303-445-3262; E-mail: email@example.com.
