  • 06/22/2006 -- Alltech to refurbish gates at 51.75-MW Seminoe, 36-MW Kortes
    The Bureau of Reclamation has awarded a $4.6 million contract to Alltech Engineering Corp. for maintenance at the 51.75-MW Seminoe and 36-MW Kortes hydroelectric plants in Wyoming.
  • 06/21/2006 -- Albania seeks refurbishment at substations
    Albanian utility Korporata Elektroenergjetike Shqiptare (KESH) plans to seek bids in late 2006 for substation equipment for the Albanian transmission grid and several hydroelectric projects.
  • 06/19/2006 -- U.S. developers propose tidal projects totaling 1,700 MW
    The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission is considering applications filed for preliminary permits to study the feasibility of six tidal energy projects in five states. Projects range from 100 to 600 MW and total 1,700 MW.
  • 05/25/2006 -- India state seeks consultants for small hydro, grid
    Agencies of Uttaranchal State seek expressions of interest by June 15 from consultants to assist with design and implementation of small hydropower projects and transmission system improvements in the hydro-rich India state.
  • 05/22/2006 -- U.S. to refurbish cranes at 100-MW Detroit, 18-MW Big Cliff
    The Corps of Engineers seeks proposals by June 6 to rehabilitate powerhouse cranes at the U.S. government's 100-MW Detroit and 18-MW Big Cliff dams, on the North Fork of the Santiam River, near Mill City, Ore.
  • 05/15/2006 -- VA Tech Hydro to refurbish three Bulgarian plants
    VA Tech Hydro signed a contract April 25 with Bulgaria's National Electricity Transmission Co. (NETC) for refurbishment of three hydropower projects in the Dolna Arda Cascade.
  • 05/09/2006 -- Refurbishment begins at DRC's giant Inga project
    Work began April 27 to refurbish the 1,774-MW Inga hydroelectric complex at a site in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) where the Congo River drops 100 meters, giving it the potential to produce at least 50,000 MW.
  • 05/05/2006 -- CEGELEC to refurbish exciter at U.K.'s 360-MW Ffestiniog
    Project owner First Hydro Co. has awarded a contract to CEGELEC of Rugby, England, to refurbish the DC excitation system of a generator at the 360-MW Ffestiniog pumped-storage project in Wales.
  • 04/28/2006 -- California tribe uses U.S. grant to study small hydro
    The Hoopa Valley Tribe of northern California is studying development of small hydro plants that would channel water from Trinity River tributaries to meet local electricity demand and for possible sale to energy providers.
  • 04/17/2006 -- BC Hydro names Alstom to upgrade 2,730-MW G.M. Shrum
    BC Hydro has awarded a C$24.5 million (US$21.3 million) contract to Alstom to upgrade two generators at the utility's ten-unit, 2,730-MW G.M. Shrum hydroelectric plant, on the Peace River near Revelstoke, British Columbia.
